Confused

Love is expressed in the strangest ways
Sometimes I just don’t get it –
(We should have rules to say what’s done
And then, like jelly, just set it).

Take for example my mixed-up cat
He sleeps throughout the day
And when it’s night, he’s wide awake
And meowing and wanting to play.

He loves me most so when I’m sleep
He runs over my hair and head
And with unleashed claws prods me awake
Then hides under my bed.

Why would TV show cartoons all day
If they were not meant to be seen?
But my mother allows me just one hour
“That’s love, my dear! I’m not mean!”

My Teacher gives me pages to write
A job I’d rather shirk
“When you’re grown and people admire your hand
You’ll thank me for setting you work!”

Shops stack goodies shelf upon shelf
But my father does not agree
That all those goodies have been kept there
Especially for me.

Love is expressed in the strangest ways
And though I don’t always get it
I’m sure when I’m big, it will all make sense
I may as well wait and just let it.

Wisdom In The Forest

There was a young traveller,
who journeyed far and wide
he pondered over words he heard
and sights that he espied.

He travelled to those places
Where rich and poor both stayed
Where silks and jewels jostled among
Cotton clothing frayed.

Men were separated by
The tiniest of things –
Wealth or Education
Or what ‘different thinking’ brings.

None seemed to be aware –
They shared sun, wind and sky
their dreams and fears were all the same
the same things made them cry.

He travelled through the jungle
where animals had their home
Where lion as the uncrowned king,
And deer and bison roam.

He came to their watering hole
To see a gentle sight –
Both lion and the timid deer
Drink in fading light.

Around the muddy edges
The animals gathered free
knowing that they were all safe
in this sanctuary.

None was king, none was prey
As equal each one stood
Greatful for the Watering Hole –
The Giver of the Good..

Pintoo’s Chores

Pintoo is just three years old,
But the family will tell you that
He’s such a help around the house
When he dons his ‘helpful hat’!

He’s too young to fold clean clothes
But he knows his colors best
So he separates them in cheerful piles
For Amma to do the rest

When it’s Pappa’s turn to cook a meal
He can’t do without his boy
Pintoo tells him where the oil is kept
And what goes best with ‘dali-toy’

Whenever the house needs a dusting
(Why does that bring on a frown?)
Amma dusts four feet and up
It’s Pintoo’s domain four down

His Parents redo all his Chores
When Pintoo is at play
They’ll probably tell him that
When he’s a little grown some day

Pintoo now is just a child
And the help he gives too small
But the joy he spreads is oh so much
When he attempts helping all!
